摘要

The multilingual turn witnessed over the past decade in Britain and elsewhere reflects a realisation that we are living in an increasingly interconnected and interdependent world and one in which an ability to navigate different cultural and linguistic realities has become a core skill. One consequence of this has been a growing recognition of the languages spoken within our communities and how these need to be supported for the benefit of our bilingual students, but also because of the potential to enhance literacy and citizenship education for all learners (DfES, 2002, 2007; Ofsted, 2008).
