摘要

A three-dimensional simulation of the circulation and mixing in the New York Bight has been conducted, forced by (i) wind stress for the year 1987 and monthly-mean heat fluxes at the sea surface; (ii) monthly-mean river discharges into the Hudson-Raritan estuary; and (iii) M2 tides, monthly-mean climatological temperature and salinity, southwestward mean transport, and the associated sea-level tilts along the seaward outer boundary. Preliminary model/observation comparison shows that the simulation can produce fairly realistic response despite limitation of the forcing data along the open boundary. We also describe the dynamics of wind and buoyancy interaction and have tracked particles under different seasons. It is concluded that pollutants are more likely `beached' along the New Jersey shore during the spring and summer seasons.
