Thermoplastic forming properties and microreplication ability of a magnesium-based bulk metallic glass

摘要

The process window for microforming Mg58Cu31Nd 5 y6 bulk metallic glass (BMG) by means of Thermal Mechanical Analyzer(TMA) and hot compression tests at various temperatures and strain rates, was reported. The composition of Mg58Cu 31Nd5 y6 by atomic percentage was selected as raw alloy for BMG preparation. The micro-formed samples was examined by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). Due to the superplastic deformation ability in SCL region, Mg-based BMG's can be manufactured into near-net shape components, for complex shaped microcomponents for micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS). The DSC, TMA, hot compression tests, and the deformation behavior of BMG revealed relatively low viscosity within the SCL region. The results of X-ray diffraction showed compression at different strain rates with an ideal superplasticity like that of Newtonian fluid body.
