title = "Techniques on inspection, assessment, and monitoring for in-service bridges with scour potential",
abstract = "In Taiwan, scour is No.1 cause to induce bridge failure. In this paper, several newly-developed techniques have been introduced to provide a great support on damage investigation, numerical simulation, and monitoring on in-service scoured bridges. The inspection technologies could rapidly collect post-disaster conditions and efficiently re-construct scenarios on damaged bridges and environmental change after typhoons. A quantitative assessment process was developed to numerically evaluate the flood resistant capacity of bridges under different hydraulic and environmental conditions. A feasibly-installed piezoelectric film monitoring system has been installed to monitor the variation of scour depth and deposition process on in-service bridges during storms. In future, these hardware or software-based techniques have a high potential to provide overall assistance for bridge engineers to manage scoured bridge under limited budget.",
