title = "Phase transitions of magnetic nanoclusters in metals and semiconductors",
abstract = "The interactions and phase transitions of magnetic nanoclusters embedded in nonmagnetic metals and semiconductors are investigated theoretically. As a consequence of the temperature dependence of the indirect interactions, it is shown that for semiconductors several ferromagnetic phase transitions are possible depending on the size of the nanoclusters, whereas for metals a single ferromagnetic phase transition occurs independently of the size of the nanoclusters. The spontaneous magnetization is evaluated in all cases.",

Siegmann for making possible a sabbatical visit and for their warm hospitality at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich, where we learned of, and were stimulated by the experiments of Prof. Landolt's group. We thank Prof. P.G. de Gennes for a stimulating discussion and Profs. J.-Ph. Ansermet, J. Fr{\"o}hlich, M. Landolt, and H.-C. Siegmann for their interest and valuable comments. We also thank J. Greenwald, S. Light, and S. Seton-Rogers who, as undergraduate students at Rice University, took part in preliminary studies of this problem. The continuing financial support of the Welch Foundation (Houston, Texas) is gratefully acknowledged.",
