摘要
This chapter addresses the two most salient normative conflicts and the prospect of mediation in contemporary Taiwanese society, namely, the controversy over national identity and the conflict between growth and environmental quality. It is not suggested that it is only in these two arenas that Taiwanese society has been experiencing collective value contradictions. As in many other modern societies undergoing political transformations, Taiwan has witnessed an array of emerging views, public debates, and discourses concerning the “redefinition” of the normative character of Taiwanese society’s present and future.
