Na3M(OH)(HPO4)(PO4),M=Al, Ga: Two Phosphates with a Chain Structure

Crystals of two phosphates, Na3Al(OH)(HPO4)(PO4) and Na3Ga(OH)(HPO4)(PO4), were grown by a high-temperature, high-pressure hydrothermal method and structurally characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Na3Al(OH)(HPO4)(PO4) is in the monoclinic system, space groupC2/m(No. 12), witha=15.277(2),b=7.0540(9),c=7.0405(9) Å, β=96.730(2)°,V:753.5(3) Å3,Z=4 andR=0.0357 Na3Ga(OH)(HPO4)(PO4) is as described above excepta=15.4319(1),b=7.1637(3),c=7.0565(2) Å β=:96.637(2)°,V:774.86(4) Å3, andR=0.0227. The two compounds are isostructural. The structure consists of infinite chains oftrans-corner-sharingMO5(OH)(M=Al, Ga) octahedra running parallel to thebaxis. Adjacent octahedra are bridged by HPO4and PO4groups to form1[M(OH)(HPO4)(PO4) 3-] chains, which are linked together by 6-, 5-, and 8-coordinated Na+ions. Hydrogen bonding also contributes to the linkage of these chains. The composition ofNa3Al(OH)(HPO4)(PO4) was further defined by thermogravimetric analysis. The structure is compared with that of Na4Al(OH)(HPO4)(PO4)2.
