Modified Mohr-Coulomb-type micromechanical failure criteria for layered rocks

摘要

The development of failure criteria for layered rocks is difficult because of the inherent multiphase constitution of the material and the complexity of the strength problem itself. Taking the local multi-phase constitution into account, the micromechanical approach models the global behaviour of layered rock by making certain postulations, such as for the interface bonding mechanism or the distribution of the constituent phases. The global behaviour is deduced by the interaction of the local constituents; no a priori assumption is required. Taliercio and Sacchi have already developed a Mohr-Coulomb-type micromechanical failure theory for layered rocks composed by isotropic layers. By appending a special low-inclination failure mode into the Taliercio-Sacchi failure theory, we modify the original theory and compare the theoretical predictions to a series of experimental results for artificial layered rocks. The theoretical predictions and the experimental results appear to be well matched.
