High alcohol synthesis from CO and H2 on ruthenium catalysts

摘要

A Ru/MoO2 catalyst was found to be active for the synthesis gas conversion to straight chain primary alcohols. Potassium carbonate was effective for enhancing high alcohol formation. The carbon number distribution of the alcoholic products followed the Anderson‐Schulz‐Flory distribution which gave chain growth probabilities of 0.27–0.35. In addition, the Ru/MoO2 catalysts are significantly more sulfur resistant than a Ru/Al2O3 catalyst. The higher sulfur resistance of these catalysts is mainly due to their higher sulfur adsorption capacities.
