title = "Experimental study of the self-starting threshold of Kerr-lens mode-locking lasers",
abstract = "The experimental study quantitatively points out the phase diffusion is the dominant pulse broadening effect in the self-starting threshold of linear cavity Kerr-lens mode-locking lasers. The dilute saturable absorbers are used to start Kerr-lens mode locking in both dye lasers and Ti:sapphire lasers. By continuously varying the absorber concentration, the laser from a nonself-starting point to a self-starting one, crossing the threshold region. The threshold absorber concentration thereby reveals how large the intracavity pulse broadening effects are.",
