title = "Experimental stability limits and CO/NOx emissions of heptane combustion within porous ceramic burners",
abstract = "An experimental investigation of the stability limits and CO/NOx emissions of the combustion of liquid heptane within a highly porous inert medium (PIM) has been conducted. Partially stabilized zirconia (PSZ) ceramic foams are used in the current study. Two reticulated PSZ porous ceramic cylinders of equal length and diameter are used to build a PIM burner. B-type thermocouples are connected to a data acquisition system to measure the burner wall temperature. A model 10AR chemiluminescent NO/NOx analyzer and a model 48H gas filter correlation CO analyzer from the Thermal Environmental Instruments Inc. are used to measure NO, NOx and CO outputs from the burner, respectively. An air blast nozzle is used to atomize the liquid fuel. Normal heptane is used as the fuel in this study. The droplets have an average diameter of about 10 μm and a Sauter mean diameter of about 15 μm. Results of flame stability limits, wall temperature profiles, flame speeds, and CO and NOx emissions outputs for various equivalence ratios are presented.",
