Solution is obtained for the turbulent diffusion equation, considering only the upward and forward diffusion but neglecting the lateral diffusion and the forward convection by the mean wind. WILLIAMS; Mar Technol Soc J v 4 n 6 Nov- Dec 1970 p 47- 56; A closed- cycle diesel power system called Psychrodiesel was developed and operated at power levels from 8 to 20 kw operating on the Psychrocycle principle. Using liquid oxygen as the oxygen source and potassium hydroxide solution as the carbon dioxide absorption material, the Psychrodiesel system was operated in a series of tests evaluating performance, thermal management, starting from cold initial conditions in closed cycle, and switching from snorkeling (airbreathing) mode to closed mode. Thorough experimental evaluation of the system was accomplished with the engine breathing psychrometric water- vapor and oxygen mixtures provided by the Psychrocycle '%'lung. '%' Closing of the steam- excess- oxygen, carbon dioxide exhaust stream by condensing the steam, chemical absorption of carbon dioxide, and recirculating excess oxygen back to the engine via the lung was successfully accomplished. Psychrodiesel performance as an undersea mobile and stationary power system is discussed anticipating the application of this system to military and commercial undersea power requirements.
