摘要

Different seismic source configurations produce observable variability in the corresponding seismic observations. Conversion between compressional and shear waves at the free-surface contaminates apparent source directivities. Details of both surface and vertical seismic profile data vary with source type. Vertical seismic profiles are potentially more diagnostic than surface survey data, of source directivity and the energy distribution between wave types, because of their wide angular recording aperture. Examples include synthetic responses of a complicated structure to point explosive, shear, vertical and horizontal force, and double couple sources and scale model data. One may expect difficulties if attempting to model observations assuming an inappropriate source configuration, especially for data recorded in a wide effective aperture. -Authors
