Computation reduction for decoding-assisted HEVC inter prediction

摘要

IEEEA decoding-assisted inter prediction for HEVC has been recently proposed to improve the coding performance. The proposed algorithm can significantly reduce bit rate but with higher computational complexity, compared to HEVC inter prediction. To improve its computation efficiency, in this paper we investigate a computation reduction algorithm for the decoding-assisted HEVC inter prediction. In the proposed algorithm we first reduce template matching size in the decoding-assisted inter prediction, then we reuse motion information and employ a early termination of merge mode decision technique to save computation time. The experimental results reveal that average 2.71% BDBR reduction can be achieved in the proposed algorithm. Unlike the original decoding-assisted inter prediction algorithm that requires average 6.4% increase in computation time, the proposed computation reduction algorithm can save average 10% of computation time, compared to original HEVC inter prediction.
