N2 - In this paper, we study the performance of a multiplexer connected with several videophony sources. Both the mean cell loss rate as well as the variation of cell loss duration are analyzed by using exhaustive simulations. The scheme of threshold with loss duration control (TLDC) is proposed to reduce the burstiness in cell loss rate which is measured in terms of the squared coefficient of variation. In the scheme of TLDC, although a larger threshold will result in a smaller variation in the cell loss duration, it also introduces a large cell loss rate. However, simulation results show that the squared coefficient of variation of cell loss duration can be reduced very effectively even when the threshold value is small and the increase of cell loss rate is limited.
