摘要

In Wireless ATM (WATM) networks, data is transferred over a worse transmission media and they are usually corrupted by some inevitable interference. Because non-realtime services are sensitive to bit error as well as cell loss, the loss or error of a single cell due to congestion or a line error will result in the retransmission of the entire protocol data unit (PDU) by the end user in ATM networks. Therefore, the corruption of cells surely would waste a lot of bandwidth. The basic idea of this paper is inserting some checking information in PDU to help ATM switches be aware of the status of PDU, and optimizing the locations for this checking information to achieve optimal throughput. The number of ATM switches that should be involved in performing checking process is also evaluated. With the optimal location of checking cells, the proposed method only requires few bits overhead for each PDU of size of several Kilobytes. According to the analytical results, there are only few ATM switches should involve in checking process. Analysis and simulation results that compared with a conventional early packet drop scheme and equally distributed checking mechanism are also presented in this paper.
