摘要

The adsorption isotherms of aqueous alcohols were measured on three silicalite crystals with different Si/Al ratios and silicalite pellet with 20% Al//2O//3 binder. The saturation capacity of n-butanol on crystal samples increased with the Si/Al ratio, indicating that the hydrophobic nature of silicalite is affected by the contains of structure Aluminum. The adsorption capacities on crystalline silicalite decreased in the order of n-butanol, propanol and t-butanol. The pellet adsorbed less alcohol than the corresponding crystal in all the alcohols studied even on a binder free basis. This is because of the hydrophilic nature of the binder that favors the adsorption of water. In a binary mixture of butanol and ethanol, the hydrophobic silicalite favored the adsorption of butanol, while the alumina binder favored the adsorption of ethanol. The selectivity of butanol thus was less on the silicalite beads than on pure silicalite.
