A new optimization approach for calibrating the parameters of the hyperbolic soil constitutive model

摘要

Optimization is increasingly used as a problem-solving approach with the advances of computer science nowadays. Like a few optimization methods, this paper presents a new application of optimization to geotechnical engineering, in an attempt to calibrate three of the five parameters of the hyperbolic soil constitutive model more effectively and accurately. In addition to the methodology, this paper also presents three demonstrations to the new calibration method. From the three examples, it was found that the new optimization method, although expected, can offer a better simulation on the test data than the conventional calibration approach, owing to the nature and the power of optimization.
