abstract = "This article presents a dead-reckoning (DR) positioning approach based on inertial-measurement-unit (IMU) observations to estimate the location of a mobile terminal (MT). For the location-estimation technique, the positioning experiments are carried out by the DR and character-recognition (CR) algorithms. By processing the observations extracted from the IMU, it is possible to estimate the movement of an MT. According to the IMU-based approach, the experimental results demonstrate that the positioning scheme using the DR algorithm causes the error propagation. To improve location accuracy, the vision-assisted approach based on the CR algorithm extracting the locations of the street signs as landmarks is an accuracy-enhancement procedure, and this approach can effectively reduce propagation errors in dynamic environments.",
