The objective of this work is to propose a sweep-surface fitting algorithm for three-dimensional measured data. The measured data is fitted by a sweep surface that is formed by traversing a cross-sectional curve along a profile curve. A nonlinear least-squares optimization algorithm is employed to optimize the defining polygon vertices of the curves and the parameter values with respect to each measured data. The feasibility of the proposed method is demonstrated by several examples. A comparison study among the proposed method and a B-spline surface fitting method is also given.
