Abstract
Remote sensing of ocean waves is the most widely used method, and the oldest one; visual observations made with human eyes. Visual observations of sea state are routinely recorded by all research vessels and oceangoing ships. These data constitute the bulk of the existing data base used by engineers and scientists. The principles of remote sensing techniques for ocean waves, and a summary of remote sensing instruments and results are presented. -from STAR, 23(15), 1985
