Abstract

The increment in surface tension by the addition of solute into the solvent was discussed. The surface tension increment was derived on the basis of the square-well model for interface solute interaction. It was found that the surface tension was increased linearly with the bulk concentration of the solute and interaction range. The results show, when the repulsion is large the surface tension increment is entropy driven and approaches the asymptotic limit.
