Abstract
During 18-20 February 1998, severe weather including heavy rain, hail and unconfirmed tornadoes occurred in the west side of Taiwan. These three days' severe weather event was quite unusual. This study documents this unusual event and determines the environmental condition for the occurrence of this event. In particular, the weather phenomena in Taiwan are analyzed and the PSU/NCAR MM5 model is used to diagnose the environmental condition for producing severe weather.
