Abstract
The breakage of flocs in a lean, batch-stirred apparatus is modeled by the Monte Carlo simulation approach based on the conservation of primary particles. The fractal structure of floc results in a decrease in both its mass and volume when breakage occurs. The characteristics of the dynamic phenomenon under consideration should be described through the following information: (i) the total number of flocs, (ii) the total volume of the dispersed-phase entities, and (iii) the cumulative number floc size distribution (FSD).
