Abstract

Shoreward intrusion of upper Gulf Stream water towards the South Atlantic Bight in winter was studied using repeated cross shelf hydrographic transects during January 1986. A semi empirical model is proposed in which the state of stratification of water inshore of the shelf break on the outer continental shelf is used as an indicator of the intrusion process.
