title = "Recent research on tsunami hazards for sumatra and the South China Sea area",
abstract = "Some challenging issues in tsunami disaster mitigation and risk management are raised at the AIWEST-DR2011 in Conjunction with SCSTW-4. Currently there is no enough attention given to potential tsunamis in South China Sea due to the lack of data for historic tsunamis in the area, therefore there is a need to have a joint effort among the countries bordering the South China Sea to collect scientific evidence of historic tsunamis along the border of the South China Sea.",

note = "Funding Information: After the 2011 Tohoku earthquake and tsunami, extensive research on tsunami risk assessment has been conducted in Taiwan. The research projects were supported by both the central and local governments. One of the main concerns is the safety of existing nuclear power plants. A national research project was initiated by the National Science Council of Taiwan to determine probable scenarios of trench-type massive earthquakes and tsunamis; the project involves experts in geological, seismic, and tsunami sciences. The results are to be used for coastal planning and emergency evacuation. The National Science Council of Taiwan has a plan to establish a tsunami database, which will be combined with Taiwan Earthquake Loss Estimation System (TELES) to promptly control hazards and contingency.",
