To ensure the safety of structure, emphasis has been increasingly placed on the inspection for deteriorated reinforced concrete structures. However, it is still very difficult to achieve expected accuracy in the inspection for such highly non-homogeneous material. Motivated by this, an inspective technique to measure the size of the rebar in reinforced concrete structures is proposed. The proposed technique, which takes advantage of the capability of radioactive rays to penetrate concrete as well as the principles of projective geometry, can predict the size and location of the inspected object based on the position of an iron ball whose size is known. As indicated by the experimental results, the proposed technique can precisely locate and size the rebar in reinforced concrete structures. The inspected results are presented by images, so some personal errors in physical measurement reading are eliminated.
