Abstract

We propose a novel method to reduce the propagation loss of the 2D photonic crystal waveguides. By sedimentation of the microspheres on the air-holes of the 2D photonic crystals, the forbidden bandgap of the microspheres in fcc structure can prevent from the scattering effect in the 2D photonic crystal waveguides to confine the light in guiding region.
