Abstract

We developed a two-axis micro fluxgate magnetic sensor with a cross-shaped magnetic core, a thick exciting, and sensing coils. To measure the x- and y-axis magnetic fields, the magnetic core was aligned with the sensing coils. With a portable lock-in amplifier circuit, two-axis measurements were successfully demonstrated. In addition, sensing coils of two sensors were connected to increase the sensitivity, where two exciting coils were used to saturate a single magnetic core. The sensitivity of 650∼700 V/T was obtained at an exciting frequency of 50 kHz. The proposed sensors are robust and simple, which can be used to measure direction of the external magnetic field.
