Abstract

This paper presents a high efficiency design of an asymmetric condenser uniform lighting system for a digital micro-mirror device (DMD) projector and compares it with a traditional collimator system and symmetrical condenser system. The optical Étendue, efficiency and uniformity of three different lighting systems used for a DMD projector were analyzed by optical simulation approach. The design results show that the optical efficiency of the asymmetric condenser system is better than the other two systems. The proposed asymmetric condenser system design significantly improves the optical efficiency of the symmetrical condenser system from 42.35%–56.13 %.
