Abstract

Discusses a numerical study of the stability of unsteady circular Couette flow. A nonlinear extension of the WKBJ method is used with direct numerical simulation of the axisymmetric Navier Stokes equations. Studies amplitude histories for various initial conditions and also the effect of initial data on enhancement and stability threshold. Notes the effects of including random disturbances, and compares findings with experimental data.
