Abstract

A study has been made for the effect of flow inertia on vertical natural convection in saturated porous media, where surface temperature varies as x** lambda , the distance along the leading edge. Within the framework of boundary-layer approximations, Forchheimer's model was transformed into a set of nonsimilar equations. Effects of flow inertia are measured and examined in terms of the dimensionless inertia parameter xi . Solutions are presented and discussed for two types of flow: 1. the isothermal vertical plate, where xi equals 0; and 2. the uniform heat flux plate, where lambda equals 1/3. Results show that wall heat flux decreases as xi increases.
