Abstract
The magnetic and transport properties of 5% Cr-doped Bi 0.46Ca 0.54Mn 0.95Cr 0.05O 3 have been investigated using magnetic susceptibility, specific heat, and neutron diffraction measurements. The compound crystallizes into an orthorhombic Pbnm symmetry. Charge ordering is revealed below 285 K. The thermal behavior of the charge transport can be described by three-dimensional variable range hopping conduction. The Mn spins become ordered below 90 K, which is significantly lower than the value of 140 K reported for the Cr-free compound. However, short-range magnetic correlations persist up to much higher temperatures.
