Network planning for heterogeneous cellular network in next generation mobile communications

Abstract

Mobile devices have been developed and grown rapidly in recent years. The data rate of current mobile network is insufficient for numerous mobile devices. In order to solve upper problem, small cell has been studied and proposed. In this paper, we define the planning problem of heterogeneous cellular network, which includes the deployment of multiple Macrocells, Microcells and Femtocells. Then three algorithms are proposed. The Top-Down algorithm aims at serving the most number of users, and the Bottom-Up algorithm economizes construction cost. Unlike these two algorithms, the Obstacle-Coiled algorithm considers to detour the obstacle for preventing the shadowing and propagation problem. In deployment case and simulation results, not only the lower construction cost achieved but also the better signal quality obtained.
