Abstract
Neutron diffraction and AC magnetic susceptibility measurements have been performed to study the ordering of the Mn and Ce spins in La0.7(Ca0.5Ce0.5)0.3MnO3. Two anomalies at around 165 and 38 K were clearly evident in the AC susceptibility measurements. Neutron diffraction measurements then confirmed that both transitions are magnetic. The anomaly at high temperature is associated with the ferromagnetic metallic transition of the magnetic Mn moments, whereas the low temperature one corresponds to the induced ordering of the Ce spins, with the moments point in the direction that is opposite to that of the Mn moments. The ordering temperatures for the Mn and Ce spins were found to be at 180 and 45 K, respectively.
