Abstract

Appropriate clearance is necessary for screw rotors to reduce the influence of the manufacturing, assembly, and working processes. Conventional clearance evaluation methods may not reflect the real situation owing to the change of meshing conditions in real screw rotors. To predict the real clearance correctly, the variation in meshing conditions and screw rotor profiles must be carefully considered. The aim of this study is to develop a new numerical method for meshing simulation and clearance evaluation. A meshing simulation algorithm is proposed to determine the initial contact position of the screw rotor pair, and a clearance evaluation algorithm is presented to compute the clearance distribution diagram along the sealing line. Four clearance design methods are compared and the experimental results are discussed to verify the feasibility and accuracy of the proposed method.
