Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to provide a theoretical interpretation of the moire technique for measuring the distortion of lens. A mathematical model is produced in which the moire fringe is generated by superimposing the image of the speciman grating on the master grating. Depending on the rotation of the master grating, the curve of the moire fringe can be designed by mathematical equation. The amplitude of the distortion can then be obtained. The inexpensive, easily-operated moire method enhances both the speed and the precision of an interferometer in its analysis of aberrations.
