Abstract

Groundwater resource holds significant roles in sustaining human activity, from domestic uses to industrial scale. Yet, it brought some threats such as land subsidence that may lead to an even bigger and prolonged hazard if the balance is not maintained. Thus, an effort to monitor the groundwater resource and understand the aquifer system in the subsurface is necessary. Geophysical survey such as AMT can help in aiding subsurface imaging in such cases. Choushui river alluvial fan is one of biggest alluvial plain in Taiwan and a major groundwater source in aiding the nation water necessities. Along with the increasing of urban development around the area, the demand in groundwater source also skyrockets. Consequently, this leads to a serious problem of land subsidence and saltwater intrusion because of the decreasing water table which may causes problems such as infrastructure damage and an increasing possibility of natural disaster. In this study, AMT survey is carried out in order to help in obtaining subsurface information. Since the data is taken in urban area, the noise contamination is relatively high. Nonetheless, the result still shows an adequate information to image the subsurface condition.
