Abstract
The lifetime of the BaO C 1Σ+ state is investigated for several vibrational and rotational levels at 1 Torr and under molecular beam conditions. A collision free radiative lifetime of 10.5 ± 1 nsec is observed for the υ = 0 level. Dispersed fluorescence from υ = 0, 1, and 2 to various low lying electronic states is measured and used to obtain electronic dipole transition moments of: μC-X2 = 9.9D2, μC-A2 = 16.8D2, μC-A2 = 9.8D2, μC-b 2 = 3.1D2, μA-X2 = 3.2D 2, μA-X2 = 0.14D2.
