Mouloud Feraoun's Les Chemins qui montent and the im-possibility of dialogue

This article examines the aporias and the im-possibibility of dialogue -in the words of Jacques Derrida- in Mouloud Feraoun's novel Les Chemins qui montent. Although transgression and hybridity constitute the nature of this novel, itiliustrates the impossibility of transgression in the socio-political and cultural contexts of a Kabylia caught in various situations of isolation and impasse in the 1950s. Based on the theme of the impossibility of dialogue, Feraoun's work enables, however, an enriching dialogue taking place beyond the story it narrates, at the level of Feraounian aesthetics and Francophone literature. This novel can be regarded as an attempt to become the voice representing a deficient voice, as well as the suggestion of a possible dialogue through the narration of an impossible one.
