Iodine-stabilized 1550 nm diode laser for optical fiber communication

We present our work on the frequency stabilization of a 1550 nm diode laser by locking its second harmonic to the hyperfine transition of the iodine. This scheme provides a general method to stabilize the frequency of laser diode in the wavelength range from 1500 to 1600 nm.
