Investigation of dynamic characteristics on two types of electrical scooters

Abstract

This study aims at investigating dynamic characteristics of electrical scooters with different transmission systems. A systematic procedure is proposed to establish guidelines for design modification. Especially, individual annoying-spectral components, which result from transmission systems, structure resonance, and induction motors, have been identified through conducted experimentation. Two types of electrical scooters, more specifically, one with a multi-stage gear transmission system and the other with a continuous variable transmission system, are taken as test benches. In preliminary analysis, vibration levels at the handle, seat and foot-panel are acquired and compared to vibration exposure criteria. In addition, riding noise during the wide-open-throttle operation of vehicles is measured and processed in an illustration of time-frequency plane. Some characterized noise components can be singled out and interpreted. Subsequently, experiments are conducted to both identify the sources and investigate the mechanisms of the annoying noises. The concluded result can be used as a guideline for design modification.
