Abstract

An interpolation filter that uses a truncated raised cosine pulse for timing recovery is investigated in this paper. The truncated raised cosine pulse with rolloff factor β between 0.4 and 0.6 is shown to be a good pulse employed on the design of the interpolation filter. The mean square error (MSE) performance and the error performance reveal that with similar computational complexity the raised cosine interpolator is superior to other interpolators such as the sine, polynomial, half sine, B-spline and MMSE interpolators. The main advantage of the raised cosine interpolator is that it is simpler and can be fully digitally implemented.
