Independent modal space control of weakly nonlinear beams

The equations of motion of structures with large deflections are usually nonlinear. The vibration modes of nonlinear system must be coupled together. In this paper, the method of independent modal space control (IMSC) is presented for controlling structures with weak nonlinearity. The dynamic response of a nonlinear cantilever beam, after performing IMSC, is studied. The numerical results show that the method is quite effective for reducing the displacement of the weakly nonlinear beam.
