Abstract

In this paper, we propose an intra prediction algorithm for High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) to improve its coding efficiency. In the suggested technique, in addition to the standard intra prediction we also incorporate some of the partial differential equations (PDEs) based inpainting modes into HEVC for intra prediction. The experimental results reveal that average 4.2% BDBR reduction can be achieved in the proposed algorithm, compared to the standard intra prediction in HEVC. The results also demonstrate that the proposed algorithm outperforms other distinct algorithms.
