Abstract

Introduced in this paper is the geometric modeling of Casting Solidification in which the geometric parameters, such as volume and surface area of a casting, are used to simulate the solidification fronts of the casting. Chvorinov's rule is taken as the base of one-dimensional heat flow equation and is extended to 2-dimensional analyses by applying the concepts of the view factor and the boundary factor. The purpose of this study is to develop a software which will make the analysis of casting solidification be feasible for foundry shops by using a personal computer. The calculated results show a reasonably good correlation with the experimental data.
