Abstract

The flow and mechanics of granular materials have been widely studied in recent years, and the results are readily applied to many fields. This paper investigated experimentally the flow patterns of sand movement and the corresponding foam pattern drift in a vibrating flask. Experimental results showed that foam pattern drift is affected by the vibration conditions, the geometry of the foam pattern, the locations at which the foam pattern is embedded and the modulus of elasticity of the flask.
