Abstract
In this study, the authors have developed a mathematical model to examine a fundamental problem regarding the application of the film-penetration theory to the dissolution of a multi-particulate system under stirring. The authors have also compared the prediction of the film and penetration theories. The analysis presented should provide a means of discriminating between transfer models. Although a comparison of the results calculated by the author's equation with those derived from the penetration model are indistinguishable for high intensity of stirring, the film-penetration theory seems to provide a more realistic and sound explanation for mass transfer than penetration theory.
