Abstract

The application of Kerr-lens mechanism to dye lasers led to the development of a femtosecond transform-limited self-starting Kerr-lens modelocked dye laser. This paper reports on the design and construction, and the characteristics of the laser. Experimental investigation of the self-starting and the stability issues is also presented. Experimental data are compared with published theories of passive modelocking.
