Abstract

In H.264/AVC video coding standard, it allows seven block sizes to perform the motion estimation/compensation. H.264/AVC standard also uses the full search to obtain the best performance. However, it spends a lot of computational time. In this paper, we propose an algorithm which adopts the fuzzy logic technique and edge energy information of the object to determine the most appropriate block size to do the motion estimation without searching all the possible block sizes. The proposed algorithm has the advantages such as decreasing the encoding time and reserving the picture quality.
